Having watched second place Stortford lose late in the game before, Hertford looked to extend their lead at the top of the Broxbourne Summer League.
It was a youthful Hertford team that took to the pitch, with debut's for James Rollins and Thomas Ashworth in the side. From the start, Hertford did not let Welwyn settle on the ball in any part of the pitch and it was from one of those turnovers that a short corner was won and Tom Evans despatched into the net. Hertford front line of Finn Kennedy and Thomas Ashworth continued to cause the Welwyn defense plenty of problems and it was long until Finn Kennedy doubled Hertford lead and this was the score at half time.
The work rate continued in the second half and when Welwyn lost the ball on the edge of the area, Finn Kennedy finished into the roof of the net to make it 3. Hertford continued to create changes, with James Begg, Jeremiah Donoghue, Finn Kennedy and Andrew Durbin all going close. Finn Kennedy finally completed his hat-trick from close range, before James Begg completed the scoring and a comfortable 5-0 win.
An excellent all round performance from the Hertford side, and specially mentioned to James Rollins on his debut with an excellent performance at the back
Next week we move on to Cheshunt on Tuesday Night and hopefully another step closer to winning the Summer League.
