After a winning streak stretching back nearly 3 months, Hertford suffered their first defeat of this years Summer League at the hands of Bishops Stortford who were looking for revenge after their defeat in the reverse fixture. Hertford went into the game 3 points above Stortford but level on goal difference. Hertford began the game immediately on the back foot and felt the pressure after 5 minutes when Stortford fired in from the first short corner thanks to a finely taken drag flick. That set the tone for much of the first half and Hertford soon found themselves 4-0 as the whistle went for half time. Despite the scoreline Hertford knew they were just about in the game having score 4 & 6 goals in the second half of the last 2 games.
With faith restored at half time, Hertford began the second half well and soon scored 2 goals thanks to Finn Kennedy and James Harris. However the goals didn't put Stortford off who soon scored 2 more and pushed the game further out of Hertfords reach. Despite 2 more goals from the Hertford front line , it was Bishops Stortford who completed the scoring to finish the game at 7-4
The result now puts Hertford and Bishop's Stortford level on points at the top of the league with Stortford having scored 3 more goals than Hertford. If results pan-out in the same way they did in the first half of the season, the league title could be decided on which defence concedes the least amount of goals and which forward line can score the most.
Hertfords next game is Tuesday 30th June against local rivals Stevenage.
