Hertford fight hard to see off Welwyn

After seeing off Whippersnappers in a comfortable 9-4 win the week before, Hertford felt they had the momentum to gain a fourth straight victory against the force of Welwyn Garden City despite knowing it would be no walk in the park. The game begun as expected with both teams battling for the ball in the middle of the pitch. Very few chances were created in the opening few moments of the game and this was to continue until the break where the score remained at 0-0. Both keepers rarely saw their goal threatened as the defense and midfield of both teams worked tirelessly to keep the score level.

Hertford came out for the second half looking like the stronger team despite Welwyn creating some good opportunities, forcing some impressive saves from the returning Sam Timms. It wasn't until later on in second half when the deadlock was broken. Hertford caught Welwyn on the counter attack as Darren Norman drove into the top of the D but saw both of his shots saved by the keeper only for the ball to bounce out to Matt Earle who fired home from the left side of the goal.

The goal put Hertford on the front foot who soon after scored 2 more thanks to a driving run down the right from Ben Cooper who passed the ball across the D for a tap in by Darren. The 3rd goal was also scored by Darren to help Hertford all but seal the victory that they had been fighting so hard for. Despite being on top for much of the second half, Hertford sadly conceded at the very end of the game after a miss struck pass across the top of the D saw the Welwyn captain knock in passed the charging Sam.

Hertford can now enjoy a 2 week break at the top of the Summer League table before taking on Cheshunt on the 19th May.
