Strong Start to Summer league for Men

Hertford fought hard to beat a strong Bishops Stortford side to claim 3 points in their first fixture of this years Summer League.
Bishops Stortford began the game on the front foot, looking much the stronger side for much of the first half however Hertford defender well and gradually got into the swing of things and began to play more as a team despite having a mixture of players from throughout the club. Despite Hertford being on top for parts of the first half it was Bishops Stortford that scored first after a controversial goal saw a reverse stick shot fly into the air inside the D only to lob Sam Timms in goal and be knocked in by the Bishops Stortford forward.

As the game went on Hertford looked the more likely to grab the second goal thanks to a dazzling run from Adam Price and a tap into the goal by Darren Norman. This lifted the Hertford players heads during the half time break and in the second half looked a much stronger team and held Bishops Stortford at bay thanks to some fine defending and dominance in goal from Sam. Hertford then grabbed their second thanks to a frankly outrageous goal from Mr (move out of my way) Begg. Hertford won a short corner from which James Begg attempted a dragflick which was saved by the keeper and palmed out to Tom Evans, who was ready for the half volley, but out of nowhere, there came a call from Begg to leave it, he then half volleyed the ball on his reverse side straight into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Although a celebration was thoroughly deserved, Begg and the rest of the team did not get ahead of themselves and knew they still had a long way to go to secure victory. The rest of the game saw Bishops Stortford on top with numerous good chances coming from all over. However, thanks to the heroics of Sam in goal, Stortford were kept at bay. The third goal saw Darren Norman steal the ball from the Stortford Centre Back and fire a low shot into the bottom right corner.
Hertford saw out the game which finished 3-1 and can look forward to next weeks game against the force of Stevenage.
