Having made large changes from the draw with Berkhamsted, Hertford started promisingly and led 3-0 at half time although this score line flattered the home side.
Darren Norman scored the 1st, continuing his excellent summer league form with a reverse sweep finish with Mike Branford scoring the 2nd thanks to an intricate through ball from Ben Cooper. Stevenage were unlucky not reduce the deficit before Cooper scored a scrappy 3rd following good work from Ian Dunnett and Alec Short at the top of the D.
Momentum shifted soon after the break with Stevenage scoring after a good move down the right. Goalkeeper Max Capaldi couldn’t keep out the 2nd attempt after an excellent initial save. Stevenage made it 3-2 from a well taken penalty stroke with centre back Stan Power being yellow carded for a mistimed challenge on the Stevenage centre forward.
Stevenage pushed on to claim a 3rd and a draw with Hertford down to 9 players however a committed performance saw the stags hang on and claim all 3 points.
