This was a pivotal game in the fight for survival against fellow relegation contenders and local rivals Broxbourne. With a few absentees, Finn Kennedy earnt his first call up to the 1st X1 and did the team proud.

The start of the game was quick and fast paced on a hot day and each side had early chances in the first 10 minutes. Hertford struck first with a converted short corner drag flick from Ben Cooper into the bottom corner leaving the keeper no chance. The game remained open and was end to end and a quick Broxbourne break gave them an overload on our defence and left a simple tap in at the back post for their centre forward.It was 1-1 at half time and both sides fully in with a chance.

At half time Skipper Nick Downer asked for another 20% from the team in the second half and Hertford started the second period facing a high press from Broxbourne. Given very little time at the back the Hertford defence of Barling, Goodson, Dunnett and Downer remained composed and worked the ball out into midfield. A spell of 10 minutes saw some of the best passing plays of the season from Hertford and resulted in some great opportunities up front. A few missed chances went but Hertford won another short corner which was again well converted by Ben Cooper with a flick into the top left corner of the goal.

As the game grew older, legs in midfield became tired and gaps opened up.This also resulted in some poor tackling and decisions leading to a couple of yellow cards on each side. Broxbourne grabbed one back through another tap in at the back post leaving it 2-2 until the dying minutes. In the last minute Broxbourne launched one last attack and they snatched a winner when Hertford failed to clear the danger.
