Coach Joel Forrester had predicted a high scoring match and wasn't surprised when Hertford quickly scored two goals through Will Harris at the beginning of the first half. East London replied with a scrappy goal but Mike Branford finished Darren Norman's assist to regain a two goal cushion.

Although the umpires had brandished cards already, a cynical foul by East London in the middle of a Hertford attack went unpunished and resulted in Tom Evans having to be subbed off due to injury. During Evans' absence, East London scored 3 goals to take the lead 4-3. Hertford levelled the score after Will Harris won a penalty flick which Gav Elliott finished with confidence before a frantic finish from Herford.

Evans returned to the pitch reluctantly but became the fifth player sin-binned throughout the match, which included Will Harris, Ben Cooper and two East London players. Both teams had 10 players on the pitch when East London bundled in a goal and celebrated their three points prematurely. Evans' second return to the pitch started an attack in which Will Harris completed his hat-trick and Hertford held out the last 2 minutes to earn a point, though it felt more like two points lost.
