Hertford 5s 4-0 Shefford & Sandy 3’s

Despite having to start without a keeper due to the Mari’s forgetting the clocks had gone back the previous week, we controlled the game from the off. Starting with an empty goal meant we all were forced to keep our heads and maintain possession, which we did very well for the opening 10 mins, until Elliot was able to pad up and get on the pitch.

An early goal came when Jared neatly tucked away a penalty flick, following some excellent work from Louis Jo after a short corner (the only one I accurately injected all game). We were able to keep the pressure on for the rest of the half, with everybody doing their jobs well and working hard for each other off the ball, and more goals followed throughout the game, from Chris (x2) and Will.

Everybody played exceptionally well; Elliot made some great stops once he got on the pitch; Tony commanded from the back and cleared things up as usual; Dorian marked their strongest player out of the game; James made an excellent 5th team debut, tackling hard and distributing well from the back; Will and Matt were both superb at wing back, working relentlessly in all areas of the pitch; Ben and Steve controlled the tempo and distributed the ball well, dominating the midfield; myself and Chris adapted well to the new system, providing danger on the attack and helping out when needed further back; and Louis Jo was relentless, harrying their defence and getting into some great positions going forward. Jared as usual slotted in effectively wherever needed, and always provided an attacking threat.

Hopefully this is the result that will springboard the rest of our season. We have a strong core of players, and with some consistency and continued work rate, we will start to pick up results.
