U12 Boys and U12 Girls Teams

UNDER 12s   
The Under 12s group (School Years 6 and 7) is usually a mix of children who have played before in the younger age groups and players completely new to the sport.
 
We make sure that new players are given time to learn the basic skills in the first few weeks when they start. We find that this basic training helps new players to enjoy learning and develop the confidence and skills to play with the wider group. Children often pick up the basics quickly so we do encouage people to give it a go. We have plenty of sticks that children can borrow, and, after the first week, we ask that your child wears shin pads.
 
After the warm up session (starting at 8.50 am), we run a series of training drills, all aimed at teaching an aspect of the game, and often finish with a short game - which always seems to be popular with the players. The session finishes at 10am, but those who want more can stay on for an additional 30 minute session.
 
The Under 12s compete in the local mixed hockey league. Last year was another good year with the Under 12 Boys team runners-up in the County tournament and they went on to the East of England regional tournament.
 
We encourage the more able Under 12s to try out for the Hertfordshire County squads, which start at this age group. We have a good number of players from the club who now train and play for the County.
